: I recently move and no longer have a place to finish my kayak. I am at the
: point of varnish but thought it might be better to have it sprayed with a
: poly. I want to hear everyones opinion and experinces. Thanks

While on vacation over the summer I stopped by Ray Klebba's boatworks in White Salmon, WA. He had a kayak there that one of his students built that had recently been sprayed with an automotive clear-coat instead of varnishing. It looked pretty good to my eye, maybe just slightly less clear than varnish. He said it had UV blockers in it. It was done in one day at a cost of $200 (if I remember correctly) at an autobody shop.

You may want to contact him to find out how the finish held up. His web site is www.raysdreamboats.com
