Ken, I got a small teak block that was going to be used for a kayak with a flat aft deck but went for the swivel levers. Don't those knobs get hung up on tow lines or during rescues? I like the solid mechanical connection though,,I was thinking that having two smaller knobs that were tapered like truncated cones with finger holds so that they could be set off the centerline of the hatch would be cool. That way any sliding of kayaks across each other would miss the knobs and the deck would look a little clearer. How about a 2" diameter knob 3/4" high with scallops for fingers with a 1/16" nylon washer underneath so there was no means for a line or jacket to get caught?
