Strip: Fix my shears...

Hi all,
I'm close! Only a couple of small pieces around the cockpit and the stripping is finished. My problem is the shear for the deck has pulled away from the hull leaving a 1/8 to 1/4 inch wide gap 1-2 feet long about 2 feet back from the bow (the tape let go). I clamped it back in place and put on new tape, but how can I keep it in place when it comes time to glass?
My idea is to hit the area with a heat gun while it is clamped and then let it cool in place. Hopefully it will stay in shape after I remove the clamps. Any suggestion/ideas?
Thanks
Andrew
ps: Boy does it look nice. I post pics when I get them back.
