I think you need to kock off the edge prior to the fill coat. (and sand for mecahincal bond prior to the fill coat, if it is to late for the chemical bond)

Other wise when working the edge after the fill coat, you run the risk of hitting the glass underneath. (there will still be a bit of an edge if you don't knock it off first)

If you do hit the glass underneath, you need another fill coat. So hopefully you can avoid that.
