If you already have a boat, build a paddle such as a Greenland style or a European style from the plan laid out in Nick's book. That will give you an idea of what the process is like. Then if you fill encouraged build the boat. These padles can be made with a minimal tool purchase and on the euro-style you can try the epoxy and glass work. These will be fron "scratch" and may help you decide what is best for you.
