Strip: PVC Pipe strongbacks

Does anyone out there have experience using PVC pipe for strongback, I am embarking on an 11' Little Auk, and wonder if anyone has any good tricks for aligning the forms on pipe particularly side to side. Nick suggests wedges and hot melt to hold them in place which sounds good to me but would be interested in other experience. Thanks for the forum, it gives first timers like me a good feeling.

ps I posted a message months ago re usefulness of a power plane and everyone piped up and said enjoy using your hand tools particularly the plane, I was so inspired I went one step further and built myself a jack plane like the old time ones. It works well too.
