Shop: Cutting stems

Hi,

I am having real trouble cutting 1 x 4 's into 1/4" strips to make the stem laminations. I am using clear ash and a 9" band saw. The band saw blade tends to track with the wood grain and I can't for the life of me figure out how to keep it going strait. Any ideas?

The last time I did this, I used a friends table saw and had fairly good results, but I don't own a table saw and was thinking I should be able to do it with the band saw.

Thanks,
Stephan
