Paddle: Bizarre Paddle Ideas *Pic*

Recently I started a few kids sized composite paddles, but as usual, did not want anything that resembled normal. So I started by grinding the blade shapes onto some pink builder's foam. Next, I put two seal coats on the foam forms. Then 6oz fiberglass. Then the decoration. Then more glass. The foam sands right off the back, once you get sufficient thickness built up. These will all go onto laminated wood handles (which are all glued, but need shaping). Fun project because it doesn't take much time per layer (5 min per blade per layer). My last carbon paddle was overbuilt with 13 layers of alternating glass/carbon. I think 6-8 is probably plenty.

The colorful one is just small scraps of minicel foam cut into small tiles.

The wood chip paddle blade is sprinkled with diced cherry veneer strips from Lee Valley.

The black one is just carbon fiber (not real creative there, but will make a good paddle).

Always looking for different ideas to use as a filler for decoration. Any ideas?
