S&G: Recipe for kayak fit??? *LINK*

As I mentioned in a previous post I really need to improve the comfort of my Cirrus. As it is now I'm having a lot of tension build up in my legs and am finding it hard to relax. I was paddling in bare feat earlier today and found myself clenching the footrests with my toes.

I'm just wondering if somebody had a favorite method for fitting the cockpit of a kayak to a paddler.

Right now I have the Newfound "Grande Seat and Sonic backband" combo. My butt and back feel fine. I have the Yakima footbraces and have them installed 1.5" below shear; they are positioned in the middle of the rail (plenty of adjustment left each way). I have not padded the hip braces yet but did install them solid and glassed in between the hull and coaming.

I have read the following page:

http://www.seakayak.ws/kayak/kayak.nsf/NavigationList/NT0000545A

I didn't find any solid info or method for fitting the kayak.

I realize that the Cirrus will not (and should not) be the Barca-Lounger my OK Scramber XT is but I should be able to make it comfortable shouldn't I?

Thanks, Dave

P.S. For some reason I feel compelled to defend the Scrambler knowing the reputation the OK Sit on Top kayaks have (heavy, slow etc...) with "real" kayakers. Man, I've just got to say that the Scrambler XT is one fun boat. I spent countless hours in it last summer and fall fishing, snorkeling, surfing and playing in the rough stuff. It got me out on the water and is just so stable that you can have a blast immediately. Because I had so much fun in that boat that I decided to go all the way and persue the "real thing", take lessons, and build this Cirrus. With blown knees and bad shoulders (motocross and mountain biking injuries) the OK Scrambler was just the ticket.

Out, Dave
