Paddle: Greenland Paddle Pre-Finish treatment

Some guitar builders who use an oil finish on the tops of there acoustic guitars also use a pre-finish treatment of thinned Super Glue. The technique involves adding an amount of SuperGlue to a small container of acetone. The solution is wiped on to saturate the wood and allowed to dry. This procedure provides a pseudo "case hardening" and helps prevent the dings and scratches that an oil finish cannot protect against as well as laquer or shellac (french polish).

I'm wondering if anyone has tried such a treatment prior to oiling their cedar greenland paddles.

I was also thinking of leeching the areas traditionally tipped with bone with full strength super glue. It seems that this might extend the life of a paddle that would get alot of abuse on rocks and such. This would darken the wood significantly but would strengthen those soft edges quite a bit.

What do think? Suggestions??
