Skin-on-Frame: skin on frame on roof racks?

I had a question. I am planning on taking two skin on frame boats up to lake Mono. The road between here and there is prone to heavy cross winds does anyone have any experience with skin boats on roof racks in heavy cross winds? any suggestions on securing them?
