Saran wrap test... on S&G?

Why let the SOF builders have all the fun?

Being a new design, I wanted to be sure of the placement of the cockpit before stripping the deck. And since I plan on an ocean cockpit, I don't have much room for error.

I have here the S&G hull, completely protected with glass and epoxy. I built the side panels 1/4 inch too high, with the intention of doing this trial. I will plane them down when the boat goes back to the shop for a deck. The boat has several temporary supports across the gun'ls, and some of the forms inside. A trial masik is installed, and the whole thing is decked with .003" polyethylene.

Inside the boat, I marked the proposed position of the masik, and outside, I marked where the design waterline should come at the stems.

I brought the boat to the Thursday night paddling club gathering, so I would have several pairs of eyes to judge the boat's trim, and people to take photos.

Initially the boat trimmed a little stern down; the masik needed adjustment forward by about an inch to trim the boat level.

My initial impressions are that the hull's initial stability is a litle tippy, but that is expected in a 20 inch beam. I have no idea yet regarding secondary stability; I did not have enough deck to try anything involving leaning.

My apologies for the grainyness of the photo. We were running out of light, and I forgot to disable the flash on the camera. So, I had to make some really big adjustments to the jpg.

Well, deck construction begins next!

Regards,

Dave Murphy
