: I am starting sof (R. Morris' Book),and all I was able to get was kiln dried
: clear ayc. I want to rip the ribs now because I am going to bead the edges
: with my bead bit from the strippers and then soak them for about 16 days.
: First question is their anything i can add to the water to help absorbtion?
: 2nd How many feet (average with overage) Should I rip of the 1/4" x 1
: 7/8"
I used AYC that had been stored in my shop for six months which is the equivalent to kiln drying. Cut 1/4 inch x 1 3/8" rib stock, rounded the edges with my beading bit, soaked in a capped off 4" plastic pipe for three days, and steamed. I broke seven ribs in the process of making 15 usable ones. I did end up steaming them for 4 1/2 minutes each rather than the shorter time that Morris suggests.
