I'm just now looking at a 19mm (thats about as close to 3/4" as you can get) that i have in my basement, and after giving it a closer look, i am willing to bet $$, that a box beam made from that will be totally rigid in a 2"x4" box. Put the whole 8' by 4' MDF plate on two supports and it does not bend easily on the middle, so i don't see why a box beam should do it either, although more than the double in length.

Not the big difference in pricing compared to plywood though, so maybe i'll just saw it up this weekend and give it a go.
