: Hi

: I'm starting to build a Guillemot Single, but have found it very hard to find
: straight material for the strongback.

: First i thought of using a metal tube with a 2x4 profile, but i have no metal
: tools (and am not going to buy any), for tapering the ends, to fit inside
: the outline of the kayak bow and stern.

Jesper,

For the Guillemot Double I am building I used a 2x4 aluminium tube for a strongback, that I cut a little short and then extended at the ends with a couple of 2x4 pieces of timber, planed at one end to fit inside the metal tube. No fancy metal tools required. I like the aluminium tube because it is dead straight, strong and won't sag or bend over time.
