Next month I plan to take a week and build a simple SOF with my small 10 year-old, Calder. I've also tentatively invited his buddy's dad to bring over his big 10 year-old, and build another at the same time. SO... I've got numerous books, and lots of carpentry experience. (and a couple of S&G's) I've been looking at the techniques used in Tom Yost's Symetric design, and that very simple frame design appeals to me. Are the offsets available, yet? Also, I think I should be building boats that are about 22" wide, and 13' and 14', for the different size kids. Calder shows promise as a paddler, so I'd like him to end up with a boat that would challenge him, but not completely frustrate him. I wouldn't be building folders, and I think I'd prefer to go with an all-wood frame. I have a nasty habit of complicating things, and I need to restrain myself and keep this project fairly simple and kid-friendly. Also, there's another kid/dad that I'd like to be able to include, but three kayaks at one time in a two-car garage?? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
