S&G: Tape type for keeping runs and drips minimal

We're going to fill the outside chine and keel seams on a Pygmy Arctic Tern 17 tonight. I'd like to tape some plastic under the chine seams to keep runs and drips to a minimum--should I use plastic packing tape? All suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks to all.
