With a couple of slight modifications, I have purchased the materials for a Hoop-Shed ( Hoop-House as seen on an earlier post last week ) for storing boats, and reclaiming my dining/living room.. Uh.. so I can continue building on the two Skin - Kids - Yaks.

The double-open Wally is going outside until she can be sold.

Plus: when the final outer gunnal strips are finally in place on the Rob-Roy canoe it will too end up in the outside storage while not in use.
But, I digress...

I took the materials list as written on the site mentioned previously, for a 10' x 21' shed and shortened the length to just under 20' by cutting the ridgeline pieces to 32" instead of 34".
The closest tarp ( blue ) I could find to the 20' x 25' recommended was a 19' x 29'4" blue tarp. The excess length will be all on one end and will be bungied together, over laping, to close up that end. It's not critical, so I'm not looking for a perfect fit. The other end will be covered with an 8' x 10' tarp that I can bungie down around the sides to hold it shut, or propped up as an extended roof. I purchased 4 lengths of 1" x 3" df to bungie along the sides to weight those down and keep it from blowing up in a breeze. For now it's located between my house, fence and the neighbors house so there's very little wind.

The materials, excluding the end tarp ( which they were out of ) and about 8 more short bungies, came to $83.00. The large tarp was over $30.00 of that, so if one were to use the clear 6mil plastic it would be considerably lighter, cheaper and very usefull for winter building... Would probably run around $65.00+. Not a bad price for a storage or work place. It will be totally break-down and portable, so taking it to someplace like R2K...4 is a possibility, and putting the ends down and rolling up one side would leave it open for a display or work erea for demos or ???

For that purpose I did check into using 12oz vinyl ( they had the prettiest shade of YELLOW ) to make it more durable and longer lasting. Checked that out at the local Tent and Awning shop. The material cost of the vinyl, welded panels(heat) and grommeted every 6" on the outer edge and ends was just under $450.00! Expensive, but doable...
For around here, for boat storage, the blue tarps will last a couple of seasons for $29.00.

Since today is my last day in the sun....( for at least 2 weeks ) I will be working in the house until sundown and then putting it up over the next couple of evenings. I'll take pics along the way.

One more mod. that I will need to check out is the use of rebar for ground anchors, rather than just the 1/2" PVC they recommend, buried in the ground. This here ground is heavy in clay and when dry, it takes a jack-hammer to put anything into it. I need to see if the rebar will fit inside of the 1/2" PVC sch. 40 pipe. It will be too small for the 3/4" class 200 pvc that the ribs and ridges are made of.

Will get it done, one way or the other and for those interested in this type of work area or storage will let you know how it comes out.
