one other option is to go for a non-breatheable drysuit. Though I will be the first to agree that the Gore-Tex model (especially with attached Gore-Tex booties) is far superior, the non-breatheable sort still work fine and can be found for $150-300. I wore one on a recent 5-day trip that included a great deal of vigorous paddling and stayed warm and dry (though a bit sweaty at times). If you only need it for a part of the year, it may be a good option.
