Material: What type of wood?

I just got Nicks book and have read it cover to cover. Thanks Nick!

I've finished lofting the Great Awk and plan to start stripping (the boat) when I return from Holiday. Finding wood here has been quite tedious. No real local suppliers and the DIY stores haven't anything other than kiln dried pine that fagments when you put a saw to it. I did find a place that imports wood one of which is Pirana Pine. Has anyone heard of and possibly used it? They also have quite a few others as well like American Tulipwood (yellow Poplar), American Cherry, and White Maple. I'm looking for something that will be easy to work with and strong.

Marcel if you read this your website is brilliant as is your kayak. I hope you don't mind if I utilize some of your ideas. I grew up in the Willamette Valley near Newberg and have spent many days along its banks.

Cheers
Jeff
