The newest member of our local paddling club is a young visually impaired lad with a natural flair for kayaking. This guy just plain BELONGS in a kayak, you can tell by watching him. I saw him throw a perfectly timed low brace Wednesday night when he was surprised by a large boat wake taken on the beam.
He called me tonight, wanting advice on what to build. Never having built anything myself, I was unsure what would be best for him. I suggested a stitch-and-glue kit for it's simplicity and ease of construction. Did I miss anything? Is there a better alternative for a non-sighted builder? He has some vision, but not much. If I paddle right beside him, he can make out my yellow hull, but if I get more than three feet away he loses me. I'd appreciate any help on this...
