: help needed what do u use for making ure GPs. I just received my new
: spokeshaver in the mail and tried it on a 2x4 that I started with various
: other elec..cutting tools, not the results I hope for seems to be more of
: a finishing tool ? maybe I should order a drawknife???? there was a good
: web site someone had on holding the GP down while u cut but Ive lost it
: some how anyone know it?

Looks like you found the answers you wanted...??
I would add that when gripping the handles, place your right thumb on the bottom front edge and your left thumb on the upper left edge. This provides some ballance pressure on the front edge and once you find a good cutting position, you will remember it.
Also, I like to keep the work up around 3 or 4" above waist high.
That gets your elbows bent and allows a good forward/backward motion without tilting the blade in the motion. Don Beale's "paddle-horse" ( as seen in the photos ) is a great idea. I built one similar and it really makes the work smooth. You can clamp it down and work all around without moving it. Then turn it over and do the other side.

I bandsaw the rough shape, line it out and use the spoke shave for the rest of the work. I have a rounded one for the shoulders on the loom, but the flat bottomed shave does all the rest... I sand lightly over the entire paddle before finishing.

Search info on the Scary-Sharp method of sharpening the blade, and once it's sharp, either a very fine paper or good strop will keep it that way.
Also, pull or push the spokeshave at an angle. It makes a nice slicing angle and that eases the process a bunch.

Enjoy!!! :)
