This is always a divisive issue. Everyone looks at it differently and, unless you're on the ground, you have no idea what's really going on in these regions.

Use reclaimed materials on your next boat if you want to. Trees are a great renewable resource. There is a difference between an individual using materials to build his own boat and a corporation exploiting a subsidized resource. I happen to believe it is better for the environment to build your own wooden boat than it is to charge a fiberglass boat to your credit card... but I'm not prepared to say why :D
