Tools: Coaming on a NC Machine *Pic*

Thought you might like to see one of my projects from work. I was building carbon fiber kayak coamings from a two part mold.

Below is a picture of our Bridgeport NC machine from work out the plug for the coaming. I made a two part mold from this plug. First I layed up carbon to make one side. I then appled a layer of mold wax to represent the thickness of the coaming part, then layed up the other half of the mold over the wax. The resulting two part molds are waxed and sprayed with mold release. The coaming is layed up on one side and the other side of the mold is clamped on top squeezing out the excess resin.

The resulting parts are trimmed with a router and wet sanded along the edge.

I am teaching myself the tool path programming so that I can cut the forms for my next stripper project.

Regards,

Jack
