I have a clc 16lt that I did exactly as you desribe. The pieces of foam are only a few inches high and deep enough to wedge between the seat side and the wall of the boat. When I'm done paddling, I pop out the hip braces and the seat comes right out as well. I don't think I have a good pic, but if I remember I'll shoot one and send it on to you.

One thing that I don't like about this setup: I used a ww style back band and without a wooden hip brace to mount to, I screwed into the sheer clamp. Well, after a decent amount of paddling (a solid season) the screws started to split the sheer clamp. I'm going to have to devise another way to mount the webbing from the backband. A hip brace would have provided a mounting point.
