I was researching ideas for deck designs this morning and I decided that I really like the look of the pinstriped deck that Ray Iron has on his Spring Run (shown in multiple photos of R2K3 taken by John Schroeder).

I've been thinking all day about how I could create nice clean, narrow pinstripes like those on Ray's boat. Seems tricky - really tricky. I've got a couple of ideas, but they all involve insanely painstaking, fastidious and outright anal techniques - and I'm not at all sure that I've got the patience or skill necessary to make it work.

So, if anyone listening has experience with this, please let me know. I'd be interested in knowing how the wood is ripped into such narrow strips (I estimate 1/8"), how the strips are glued up and clamped in place - and also how much extra effort it took to make it work.
