I glassed the underside of the thigh brace 'wings' with two layers of 4oz on top and two layers of 6oz on the bottom,,agreed about the stress as it's not uncommon to pick up/grab the whole kayak at that point. There are a lot of ways to attach backband bungies,,,glued loops of webbing to whereever you want to eyelets screwed into bulkheads or under the coaming/deck with carefully placed plastic eyelets. Into the bulkhead with machine screws and plastic eyelets is the easiest.
