: Reg: I am curious. Did you put internal hatches on your bulkheads? Whenever
: you get a chance...could you consider placing some closeups of your deck
: fittings and grab handles on your website of pics? Could you also comment
: about how you installed the t-nuts to insure their being waterproof and to
: minimize corrosion..and what you did to increase strength in and around
: the grab handle t-nut connection? Am curious why you chose this approach.
: I was thinking about an end pour or block of wood at each end. BTW....that
: last shot was a real beauty...that reflection reminds me of a memorable
: shot of Ted Henry's Redfish Silver (or a Return?).
: I have always liked the kayaksport deck fittings. I am toying with the idea
: of putting on Kayaksport or VCP hatches.....like what Jay Babina has done
: with the OI. Man...this is fun....collecting ideas from all you
: building/paddling gurus to design and build my own boat.
: Lookin fwd to building the King this spring....thanks again Reg.

Hi Bob,
I just posted some photos on my msn site of the detail you asked for.
The minicell bulk head is removable with mating velcro around the foam no hatch openings. Stainless rings were installed inside and out on the stems, with cord looped through the inside for securing float bags. T-nuts were depronged and embedded from the inside into the already glassed deck with several layers of reinforcement to distribute the loads over a minimum of four strips. The 1/4" t-nuts for the grab handles are reinforced over a 6" area. Deck net bag has internal shock cord to hold any size load secure and the opening stays closed with just the downward pressure of the shock cord. the fastex buckles make it easily removable. My logic for the embedded t-nuts is that without hatches I needed all fittings to be removable from the outside, and it makes for easy polishing or refinishing.
Yes, Ted Henry's photo of Holly's Silver was the inspiration for the reflective shot of the King. Photos were taken at Otter Bar Lodge, a whitewater kayak school where I teach a few weeks each summer.
Good luck with your building and enjoy the process.
Reg
