I have always precoated one night (falling air temps), scraped the hard fuzz off with a cabinet scraper the next day and glassed that night both on a stripper and on S&Gs. I had good result and always thought it was "THE" way to epoxy until I made a test panel on plywood. I precoated half the panel then the next day glassed the whole panel. I could not tell the difference from one side to the other. Both sides of the panel failed the same (visually) when bent to failure. I did not do weight tests or quantitative structural tests. I concluded, if you do full saturation of the surface with epoxy, precoating is a waste of time (at least on plywood).
