Material: 4mm substitution

I have decided to place my Arctic Tern 14 bow bulkhead much closer to my feet than than plans call for. I have discovered that the precut factory part isnt big enough. I am having trouble finding a local source (Augusta GA, Savannah, GA) for 4mm Okoume plywood. What would be a healthy sub for a bulkhead and only a bulkhead? Can I glass a hardware store piece of ply and use it? If so what thickness, grade etc should it have? I appreciate any info.
