Not that I have an answer for you Bryan, but while we are on the topic of SOF, when I was at Meet at the Beach this past summer, this one guy made this really neat super SOF that had the most severe v hull shape, that to look at it would make you think a surfski is a more stable option. Well it so has it that the builder - forget the guys name, good chap, explained that normally yes, the v hull would be very unstable EXCEPT the sides right before the deck which break at the chine and seemed 90 degrees straight up and down actually made for the needed stability. Apparently this was a low volume kayak so the sides didnt sit above the water like a Chesapeake 17 for example. It submerged and steadied. Neat concept. Until he explained it I thought a guy would have to paddle mad with power strokes.

Bryan, you gotta go to the next Meet at the Beach. Loads of SOF enthusiasts - surprisingly so. And on that note, seemed like Greenland paddles were so standard, the second day I showed up with my euro I thought i was going to get comments for apparent disingenuine paddling interests!!
