Strip: varnish befor fiberglassing? *LINK*

Hi,

Does anyone have experience with varnishing or "working" (maybe even with a good wood oil) the wood of their kayak befor fiberglassing - to bring out the grain and color of the wood. I build my kayaks out of larch - cedar is expensive and hard to come by in my area. Larch has a nice honey color with moderate to heavy grain. I would like to really bring out the beauty of the wood befor setting this under the epoxy and glass.
Thanks for your help!
