Joe,

Are you saying that the gunwales are not bending symmetrically (a line strecthed down the center is off to one side)?

If so you can try turning the gunwales over and flopping them end-for-end to see if this helps. If not you can plane the stiffer gunwale to make it more limber. Or you can take knife and press hard against the outside of the stiffer gunwale, making vertical cuts (this is a common method in Greenland). Whatever you do, do not cut the end off of one of the gunwales (assuming that they were the same length to begin with). Doing so will only make your kayak lopsided.
