: Even though the joint may be stronger than the surrounding wood, wouldn't the
: joint create a stress point that would be different than if there were no
: joint in a long section of wood? The joint may not separate but maybe the
: wood might crack where the glue stops? Just trying to optimize were I
: place my joints. It sounds as though I shouldn't stress over this issue.

Stress points are not a problem. The wood is only 3-6mm thick, and the joint is 6 to 12 times longerthan the thickness of the wood. Such a long joint spreads out the stresses considerably. The teapered shape of the pieces involved also spreads the stresses proportionally, so at different point along the length of the joint one piece, or the other, takes a bit more of the forces involved.

The glue is stronger than the wood, and not likely to cause a problem, either.

Lots of people have built boats using these joints and the only failures I know of have occurred a few days after gluing--usually due to incorrect mixing of the epoxy used for the adhesive. Most of those problems were traced back to bad pumps or bad measuring, or mixing one part of resin to one part of more resin, and forgetting to add hardener completely!

In addition to the glue in the joint, you'll be wrapping the edges with fiberglass tape or cloth. That adds even more strength to the area.

Set aside your worries.
