Scott,
They could work for some applications. I haven't tried them, but at first look, they don't appear to have the holding power of small Pony spring clamps.

The clip clamps appear to have handles designed for two finger compression and the fulcrum point seems close to the center.

The small Pony clamps can't be opened with two fingers unless your name is Hulk Hogan. The materials the Pony clamps are made of seem to be a better return on your dollar.

Clip clamps cost a buck a piece, and you can pick up small Pony clamps at a buck twenty-five at the link below.

Pick-up some of each and let us know what you think.
