: Allen,
: How did you lay your hands on kauri? I just spent a year in Auckland, NZ
: where lived in a house with kauri floors. Beautiful wood and I understand
: it is good to work with.

The Kauri was just a few little offcuts and scraps from a furniture workshop. They used to make such things as dining tables, coffee tables, entertainment units and side boards. The Kauri was generally used as features rather than for the main part of the pieces.
I can imagine a kauri floor would be beautiful. I have seen it used as decking on a very old sailing ship in Tasmania.
I found it an excellent timber to work with; close grain and very consistent.
