I hope to begin building a CLC Artic Hawk in May. Once I get it built I want to get it to the water!!!!! I live about an hour from Ventura, CA the closest harbor.
I have a 1990 Olds and a Saturn Relay.
I am looking for low cost options for roof racks--The cross bars for the Saturn don't look that great considering the cost and the Olds is a drive it till it dies beater.

I've thought of putting some padding between the roof and tieing the boat down--my friend has installed eyebolts under the body so lots of lines are possible. I've also thught of building a platform on the trucnk lid to support the rear portion of the boat. That would be on the Olds. The Saturn's roof rack yields when I give it a tug and it is really high when the paddler is 5" 2" I guess I could use a ladder or some type of roller on the rear of the mini-van.
Sucks to be short on bucks--I've been trying to buy a kit for about 5 years and finally said now is the time.So here we go

This board has been my hobby for a long time now so thanks to all of you who have shared so much info.

Thanks. And expect to see some posts from this newbie in a couple of weeks.

ANYONE WHO HAS BUILT THE ARTIC HAWK, PLEASE GIVE ME TIPS!!!!
