I repaired and revarnished my boat a couple weeks ago...i used an hvlp sprayer with varnish thinned 10% or so. I found it easier than brushing and had no runs. I put on 4 coats..no sanding between..a few hours between each coat.
I suppose i could sand and add a final coat but it's looking good like it is.

I think the foam brush puts it on thicker thus you get a deeper looking shine but i could just keep spraying varnish coats.

It was definitely faster to spray it...3 coats in one day went fine...i could scuff and do another 3 i think. i used captains varnish.

Time will tell if the varnish will peel off since i did not sand between coats.

: Anyone spraying varnish? I spray most of my finishs on furniture when
: possible. Just received a gift of a larger air compressor that needed some
: work. Just got it going so I can switch over to HVLP conversion gun(s). I
: was thinking about spraying the kayaks I am building now. Never sprayed
: varnish though.
