: The first idea would work fine.
: The uphaul is more usually attached closer to the 2/3 from the foot than the
: end of the boom. The sail is better balanced for handling that way.
: Likewise the control line from the bottom boom.

In my mind by putting the uphaul torwards the middle of the of the stressed upper convex side of the spar using weak poly tube would be very easy to break. But it seem like you could have the strength of the stressed spar by fastening the rope first to the end then to a pulley towards the middle for easier handling. Just a thought.

: The odd thing is that a small crabclaw rig looks triangular at rest rather
: than curved when in use. The booms do flex a bit, easier on the original
: palm-leaf sails.

I was wondering about that and if it made any difference. The picture I posted of the guy with the A-frame mast did cut his sail with a big concave in the end. Probably for looks since it robs you of some sq footage.

: I'm not sure about the poly tube for booms,

Most likely a crazy idea, especially if the spars could turn side ways, but if they didn't it would seem they would have the high strength as do bridges that have cables stressed in set concrete plus the strength of an arch with the outward pressure as in anchent building of door, window, church roofs and bridges.
