: Well I think I make another mistake. Got my coaming fitted and realized that
: I forgot to put a mockup of the cockpit on the frames so my deck was not
: flat at the coaming. Leaving the sides higher than the front and back of
: the coaming.

: Am I correct that lowering the sides, so that the top of the coaming is not
: flat, would be a mistake? Or should I just mark it off and trim it? Most
: the time I will just be using a nylon skirt. I don't expect to roll this
: boat but you never know.

: I am clamped on a strip for the lip I was planning on using, but it's to big
: (looks wise). I am going to make it thinner so I can lower the coaming
: some.

: All that to say, Got any advice??

If your lip strips are flexable you should have no problem following the deck contour as John says. With a smallish cockpit like yours you don't want the coaming riser to be too high, especially at the rear. It will make it more difficult to slide in and out.

You can recess the rear deck by cutting a radius crescent two thirds of the way around and outboard of your cockpit by a couple of inches toward the rear and then depressing the resulting crescent and filling in with short vertical strip lengths.

Rob has done it with the front of the cockpit in the picture attached. a lot of extra work, but you should try entering and exiting with the extra coaming height to make sure it is possible before committing to the size you have. If it is too small it would be easier to just enlarge it by an inch or two at the front.
