: Hi Ken, when you see Robert, please give him a pat on the back on my behalf.

: Glen in Baie-St-Paul.

Ditto from me!

Ken, you mean Robert is requesting a coffee rather than a Guinness? things must be getting tough en route.

Really, I'm very impressed. Robert has crossed some major obstacles including Codette Lake which is narrow but has a high potential for wind to funnel along the valley and Tobin Lake which is again problematic in wind, not to mention fraught with motor boats, fishermen (many Americans) and monster walleye. He has managed to find his way through the Cumberland Delta, the largest freshwater delta in the world and a major navigational challenge. He has managed to get around two major hydroelectric dams which may not be particularly well set up for the river traveler. And, he is nearly across (hopefully is by now) Cedar Lake, another large lake where wind would be problematic.

I know Robert has a keen interest in the history of the region he is passing through. One very important place is the town of Cumberland House, in the Cumberland Delta. Cumberland House is the oldest permanent settlement in Saskatchewan and the cross-roads on the fur trade highway through the interior being located on the Saskatchewan River at the junction with the Sturgeon-Weir River allowing access to the Churchill River which in turn allowed access all the way to the Arctic Ocean (with a teeny little 19km portage). The Hudson Bay Company established it's first trading post inland from the Hudson Bay there in 1774.

Cheers,
Bryan
