Staple length depends on several things. How thick the strips are and what they are made of and what the bulkheads are made of too. Also how much the strips resist staying in place. 1/2" is a good place to start. Luckily the staples are relatively inexpensive, so you can buy more sizes if you want them later without going broke :)
