Why are the side panels so high?!

In Response To: S&G: Stitching Woes *Pic* (Michael Collins)

Does anyone have any thoughts on how the side panels are possibly so much higher than the forms than they should be? Beveling would make them lower, if anything, and no amount of bevel could account for such a large difference. I've checked the forms against the pattern and they are indeed for the correct boat. I wouldn't have a problem ignoring it and moving on, but only if I can be confident that the performance of the boat isn't affected. Any help appreciated!
