First off, apologies to Randy for my over zealous response. I was in the process of loading images to make a post at the time. That quick response and photo did not communicate clearly. Hope this makes it a little clearer.
In trying to come up with a better skeg system. I slotted a skeg so the housing could be attached lower and limit buckling. I Then reinforcing the cable housing with a carbon sleeve, still flexed, double carbon sleeve was better, but would probably not take the strain of pushing on a jammed skeg. Final step was a double reinforced sleeve attached to the left side of the housing. This is now extremely strong and smooth. Weight so far is 17 ounces. Now waiting on more of the stiff 1/8" stainless cable. Should have the system in a kayak within two weeks.
In response to Randy's original question. I think Necky is using a titanium rod in their Chathams.
I too would be interested in what is working and what are the weakness of existing systems.
Best,
Reg
