Ah yes, now I get it. I'm in no hurry but I want to put a skeg in one of my boats, probably this winter. Your prototype is starting to look good to me. By stiff cable are you talking single or multi-strand? I will probably have more questions after more thought, but I can leave that to later. Are you going off to Chile this winter?

: First off, apologies to Randy for my over zealous response. I was in the
: process of loading images to make a post at the time. That quick response
: and photo did not communicate clearly. Hope this makes it a little
: clearer.

: In trying to come up with a better skeg system. I slotted a skeg so the
: housing could be attached lower and limit buckling. I Then reinforcing the
: cable housing with a carbon sleeve, still flexed, double carbon sleeve was
: better, but would probably not take the strain of pushing on a jammed
: skeg. Final step was a double reinforced sleeve attached to the left side
: of the housing. This is now extremely strong and smooth. Weight so far is
: 17 ounces. Now waiting on more of the stiff 1/8" stainless cable.
: Should have the system in a kayak within two weeks.

: In response to Randy's original question. I think Necky is using a titanium
: rod in their Chathams.
: I too would be interested in what is working and what are the weakness of
: existing systems.

: Best,

: Reg
