I'm another happy moby latch user. However, I would advise folks to make them strong - there is a lot of pressure there when they snap. I used some scrap mahogany-like plywood from a crate and one of my latches broke. Now I'm in the process of repairing that one and beefing up the others. In the meantime, a webbing strap around the whole kayak is getting me through the paddling season.

Late last night, on the way home from a trip we drove through a wicked storm with a major downpour and hail. There were tornado sightings all around the area and we had to pull over and wait out the worst of it. The kayak was upright on the racks. The cockpit covers stayed in place with the mobies (a cord ; I haven't checked yet to see if they took in any water as we just put it in the garage and left it until today for unpacking.
