Instinctive bracing. I couldn't remember bracing at the time though it was noticeable on camera.

The kayak is of the Yare/Skua 16/Dennis Davis, tortured ply type. No chines, round bilge. I've been paddling it for a decade now so am used to the lack of the word "stability" in its vocabulary.
