Hi,

I am looking to build a simple rudder control for my kayaks. Initially to go into a CLC Chesapeake 17, but a simple/flexible design I can incorporate into future builds (Night Heron underway - yay!).

As I paddle racing kayaks, I am after a system that meets the following criteria:

- feet in centre of kayak, not to sides like rail-mounted ones available
- incorporates solid foot brace
- can be made primarily of plywood/timber
- toe control for rudder - a K1-type tiller isn't suitable in rougher water
- ideally adjustable, but not essential

So, has anyone got pics, plans, or links of something that incorporates toe or other control for centre-mounting?

I have an idea what I want (foot plate with hinged toe controls attached to rudder wires) but need to see how they're set up, if springs are used on the hinges, angles, etc.

Any help appreciated; happy to answer any questions to assist in getting assistance!
