I'll just put this out for an idea. Sorry I lost all my pictures of this setup in a computer crash. I had a center aluminum post with a PVC pipe with a center hole drilled so the pipe slid onto the post. At first I used cable fastened to springs at the rudder and it didn't work well at all. When I pushed the rudder too far left or right the tension collapsed. Then I used nylon stretch rope and that didn't happen anymore. The rope worked for me much better then the cable.
