Sounds like you have a few paddling adventures coming up! Definitely let me know if you'll be down here for the WM Games. I am building a design by David Payne (www.payneyachts.com.au), one of Aussie's yacht designers. He also has a strip-built K1 which I plan to do out of some 3.5mm WRC I have (after completing my Night Heron).

In the AU rules, there isn't a minimum weight for Tk class. I'm hoping to get mine quite light with 4oz glass - it's 3mm ply and 1.5mm deck. Should come out around 10-12kg somewhere.

Now that I have the forms made up, I will eventually do another one and do it a bit neater...been a bit eager to get this one done! Also, I used Paulownia for the stringers (it's built on stringers, not S&G) which is a lot lighter than WRC but a bit softer so the thin strips flexed a bit during clamping. But, as you say, I won't be paddling at Olympic pace so shoudn't make much difference (no one else will probably notice either).

Do you have pics of your boat? I wasn't aware of any other designs in wood of TK1's, and have only seen a couple here. Be great to see pics and hear a bit more about it (you can email me direct if you like). I'll be posting pics when I'm done - hope to have hull glassed and turned over by this time next week.
